چکیده

Atmospheric gas saturation levels were monitored throughout a 40-km reach of the upper Colorado River during the summer and fall of 1995 to identify possible sources of gas supersaturation in the river. Gas saturation data from seven fixed sampling points and 40 random sampling points were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple regression methods. The lowest total gas saturations (DP= −27) were found at the bottom release of Williams Fork Reservoir. The highest total gas saturations (DP=77) were found at the spillway release of Windy Gap Reservoir and the confluence of Willow Creek and the Colorado River. Spacial and temporal effects were determined to be significant contributors to gas saturation levels. Gas supersaturation in the study area originated from both man-made and natural sources. Water discharged from the spillway of Windy Gap Reservoir was found to be the main source of man-made supersaturation, while photosynthetic activity of aquatic plants was determined to be the natural source of supersaturation in the study area. Greenhouse gas emissions from building and operating electric power plants in the Upper Colorado River Basin.

As demand for electricity increases, investments into new generation capacity from renewable and nonrenewable sources should include assessment of global (climate) change consequences not just of the operational phase of the power plants but construction effects as well. In this paper, the global warming effect (GWE) associated with construction and operation of comparable hydroelectric, wind, ...

Meniscal Roots: Current Concepts Review

Meniscal root tears are defined as radial tears located within 1 cm from the meniscal attachment or a bony rootavulsion. This injury is biomechanically comparable to a total meniscectomy, leading to compromised hoop stressesresulting in decreased tibiofemoral contact area and increased contact pressures in the involved compartment. These changes are detrimental to the articular cartilage and ult...

Hazard assessment for a pharmaceutical mixture detected in the upper Tennessee River using Daphnia magna

Widespread use of pharmaceuticals has resulted in mixture concentrations ranging from mg/L in effluent to µg/L concentrations in surface water. In a 2008 study, 13 pharmaceuticals, ranging in amounts from 0.0028 to 0.1757 µg/l, were identified in the Tennessee River, USA and its tributaries. In order to address the need for risk assessment of environmentally relevant pharmaceutical mixtures, <e...

Using Sediment Core Samples to Examine the Spatial Distribution of Myxobolus cerebralis Actinospore Production in windy Gap Reservoir, Colorado

—Studies of the whirling disease epizootic in the upper Colorado River drainage have suggested that Windy Gap Reservoir is a source of the fish-infective actinospore of Myxobolus cerebralis. We divided the reservoir into four quadrants (12 zones) and conducted a core-sampling study to determine the spatial dynamics of actinospore production within the reservoir from late June to early November ...
